Convegno Eurisko del 23 maggio 2011

In cooperation with Federchimica Ceramicolor, Confindustria Ceramica presented the Eurisko survey on architects and the characteristics of architecture firms

“Italian architects and covering materials: selection criteria, evaluation and information channels” was the theme of a presentation given by Gfk Eurisko Vice Chairman Paolo Anselmi on architecture firms as key players for the Italian building industry. Promoted by Confindustria Ceramica and Federchimica Ceramicolor, the event was held this afternoon in the Confindustria Ceramica conference hall in Sassuolo and saw the participation of more than 100 professionals and ceramic company representatives. Moderated by the Director General of Confindustria Ceramica Armando Cafiero, the conference was introduced by Franco Manfredini, Chairman of the ceramic manufacturers’ association, and by Daniele Bandiera, Vice Chairman of the glaze and colour producers’ association.

“Collaboration between producers is very important for achieving the best results in terms of consumer satisfaction,” argued Franco Manfredini, Chairman of Confindustria Ceramica. “This collaboration is also invaluable for the process of product development that is being pursued unflaggingly by the Italian ceramic industry. The information emerging from this survey is extremely useful for producers as it allows them to understand the expectations of Italian architects.”

“The survey conducted together with Confindustria Ceramica investigated the selection criteria adopted by architects and has proved very useful because it allows us to focus our efforts on projects that are both innovative and meet market demand,” explained Daniele Bandiera, Vice Chairman of Federchimica Ceramicolor. “This way the entire industry, with the contribution of all its players, will increasingly be able to achieve high quality standards and offer solutions that are perfectly in line with the needs of building professionals and end customers.”

The nationwide survey revealed that the average Italian architecture firm is made up of 6 people (although a quarter of the total consists of solely the owner), that 68% operate prevalently in the residential sector, and that 52% are involved in refurbishing work on projects with an average surface area of around 2,000 square metres. The breakdown of materials according to their various applications showed that porcelain tile is most widely used for exteriors and ceramic tiles of various types for interiors.

Architects obtain information prevalently through participation in trade fairs (84%), followed by producers’ websites (77%) and observation of completed projects (72%). Another important factor was the analysis of the final decision-maker in terms of the choice of materials, which in 30% of cases is the architect alone for exteriors and in 7% the client alone for interiors. Based on responses from 323 professionals, the survey also analysed the image and values associated with the various materials as perceived by architects according to specific applications.
