| Regione Emilia Romagna finances two ceramic industry research projects. Manfredini: “A key tool for promoting competitiveness. Praise is due to regional councillor Muzzarelli” In the context of the research grant competition entitled “From manufacturing districts to technological districts”, Regione Emilia Romagna yesterday approved the financing of two research projects for the ceramic industry, one devoted to research and innovation in the field of ceramic products and processes and the other focusing on the issue of installation. “The approval of these two ceramic industry research projects further highlights the importance of research for strengthening the sector’s competitiveness and international leadership role,” commented Confindustria Ceramica Chairman Franco Manfredini. “I would like to praise everyone who made this initiative possible, particularly the regional councillor Giancarlo Muzzarelli.” The research grant competition was launched with the aim of supporting the set-up, development and promotion of research laboratories by companies – either individually or as part of associations – through regional grants assigned to industrial research projects for technologies with a high impact on the ceramic production chain or manufacturing district. In the two approved projects, Confindustria Ceramica played a key role in coordinating more than 20 member companies in cooperation with all potential players in order to promote renewed development of the ceramic district. The main research centres in the Emilia Romagna region, including Centro Ceramico di Bologna, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Materials and Environmental Engineering Department) and CNR-ISTEC in Faenza, are also fully involved. The initiative is particularly important in terms of its consequences for the local economy and is supported by the municipalities of Sassuolo and Fiorano Modenese. The project “Laboratory for Ceramic Product and Process Innovation”, based in the Centro Ceramico di Bologna laboratories in Sassuolo, will address various strategic issues for the sector, including the aspects of sustainability, an area in which Italian ceramic companies intend to improve further on their already excellent achievements. The project “Ceramic Tile Installation Laboratory” will focus on tile installation and will be devoted to developing new products, again with a strong emphasis on sustainability, and to analysing and improving the application conditions of ceramic tiles in order to assure greater overall competitiveness of Italian ceramic product ranges. In this case the initiative will be based in the offices in Ubersetto (MO) of the adhesives manufacturer Adesital, a member of the Mapei group. |
